A technology company approached OpsAssist with concerns about the performance of its software engineering team. Despite having five full-time engineers, the team was struggling to deliver meaningful business outcomes.
Engineering leaders frequently requested additional headcount, yet the executive team lacked visibility into what the current team was working on and were hesitant to invest further without clarity on impact.
OpsAssist was brought in to assess team operations and identify the cause of underperformance. Our review revealed that work was being managed informally, with minimal planning, prioritization, or visibility. The team stated that they were using Scrum to manage their work, but there was no consistent methodology to support delivery, which led to shifting priorities, reactive execution, and uneven output.
The team was constantly switching gears and reacting to urgent requests, which made it hard to focus or deliver consistent results—and impossible to provide a reliable roadmap.
We created a plan to implement Scrum effectively in order to bring structure to their work. Together with engineering leadership, we introduced proper sprint planning, backlog management, and effective standups.
These small but practical changes helped the team track the value that was being delivered, stay on track with their roadmap, and gave leadership a clearer view of how time was being used—and what was actually getting delivered.
Following the rollout of the new operating model, the team has already achieved a greater than 100% increase in delivery efficiency—and it is only improving.
